Wonders of Iceland – a subjective list

August 30, 2016 by Agnes Lorincz Leave a Comment

We are here in Iceland for more than two months now. We have visited almost all popular and some less frequently visited sites of this country. We have seen its wonders, we made thousands of photos and we enjoyed the lukewarm, sunny summer. What I like in Iceland? Almost everything. The sunset in Reykjanes, the sunrise in Gullfoss, the feeling of hesitation when I have to choose between the strawberry and the Oreo shake in Roadhouse, the feeling of non-hesitation when I see a bag of Lakkris, the freezing snorkelling in Silfra, the hundreds of waterfalls, the rainbow, admiring the eruption of Strokkur at the 126th time, icebergs and seals in Jökursárlón, the colurful clouds, the mystic geothermal areas, the ever-changing weather, the fog at road F35 so you start to believe in elfs just in case, the fish selection in restaurants, making the 234th photo of Sólfar, completing my weekly running with an icecream at the old harbor and so on.

What is the best, the ultimate here? The water. The cold water from the tap, one of the most pure drinking water on this planet. The hot water from the tap that make you feel you are in a spa. The sea and the ocean around. The hot tubs right next to the road. Swimming pools. Blue Lagoon. The rain. The glaciers. The waterfalls.

But if you are a photographer beware of tourists. Plan your trip wisely or you finish spending days of photoshopping out people from your pics!

How Iceland Ruins My Running

July 9, 2016 by Agnes Lorincz Leave a Comment

Last evening I went for a run but Iceland simply hindered it. I cannot call my act running as I had to stop time to time to watch or take a photo of the spectacular view. No, I wasn’t at a special location, I simply went down to the bay 5 minutes from my flat. This place is simply unbelievable.

As I wrote: took a photo. But I did not use a tripod, I did not used a professional camera, I just pushed the button on my iPhone. Is there any differnce between a simple snapshot and a photo? I certainly beleive there is. My photos have no artistic value, they are “only” memories for me. Yes, they mean a lot for me but they are not made for being hanged on someone else’s living room wall. This is the real photographers’s job: take a photo, catch a moment and evoke emotions in everyone watching the photo. That is what I call talent.

How to Avoid Insanity

As a diligent Photographer’s Wife I document the events. He is composing with our Mark II Artist’s Viewfinder app before even bothering with taking anything out from the car. This way he not only saves time but eases my nerves as well.

I would go mad if he would unpack and repack the myriad of photo stuff at each and every shot possibility: open the tripod, put the head on it, then a body, a lens, notebook, cables, who knows what. Playing for a few minutes, then change the lens, recompose for another 4 minutes. Then move the whole conglomerate 3 meters away and starts the whole process from the beginnig. Oh My! Couldn’t bear it! Grateful we have this tool.

My beloved Iceland,

I cannot believe it! After 10 years we meet again. You are the Paradise of Photographers and I admire your beauty, pureness, wildness and rudeness. You are not only unique but simply one of the most special places on this planet.

This time we will visit you more deeply. I wont’t skip the most popular places of yours like Geysir, Gullfoss but we will explore your less known, hidden wonders as well. I know that I will take amazing photos on you even with my iPhone.

Best,

Your biggest fan, the Photographer’s Wife

Stay tuned guys and gals! Photos from the Photographer’s Paradise will come!
